Up for sale is one of the true classics of the iconic 1950’s. This 1955 Ford Thunderbird was one of the early production models built on 3/25/1955 and painted in the Thunderbird Blue with a Turquoise and white interior. Power comes from the matching numbers 292 cu in Ford ‘Y’ Block V8 rated at 198 horsepower, and it’s backed by the Ford-O-Matic 3-speed automatic transmission. True mileage of the Tbird is estimated at 150,000.
Mechanically, the car starts and runs great. The engine and transmission were totally rebuilt 500 miles ago and the car now runs on 12-volts. A Pertronics ignition and Holley carburetor were also added for ease and reliability.
It appears the interior had certain pieces replaced or restored such as the seat being reupholstered and new carpeting. The door panels, headliner, and dashpad look original. All the factory gauges function with the 12-volt system except the power seat.
The repaint and bodywork were done 15+ years ago and it shows its age. There are areas of rust, some ‘dings’, the doors do not align correctly, and the windows do not fit tightly. The passenger area and trunk floors appear solid. Exterior lights and turn signal’s function. All the glass looks good with no cracks or chips and the chrome appears to be in fair to good condition. The car is a definite driver. Please look at all photos carefully.
The frame looks good except for some surface rust and scale. Some of the front suspension parts were replaced and the car ‘tracks’ well. Recently the brakes were serviced with the master cylinder and wheel cylinders being replaced.
The Thunderbird did come with a soft top, but it needs to be replaced. Only the frame is included.
