1969 Chevrolet El Camino SS 396 painted a Canary Yellow enamel and powered by a 396 cu in (402 cu in) big block Chevrolet V8 and backed by a Muncie M-20 4-speed and 12-bolt Chevrolet rear differential. History on the El Camino is incomplete and all that is known is the car was purchased 27 years ago and over a period of years, restored to the car you see for sale. Only 2,000 miles have been logged on the car during that time.
The engine is a 1972 vintage 396/402 cu. in. / 270 horsepower motor (CTB) treated to a 750 cfm Holley carb, Weiand intake manifold, and Pertronics ignition. Factory options include power steering and power brakes. The engine starts easily, idles smoothly and is very responsive. There is no evidence of leaks or the engine burning oil. It is believed to have been rebuilt to stock, but there are no receipts. Exhaust system appears to have been recently replaced too.
Backing the big block is a 1969 Muncie wide-ratio 4-speed with a Hurst shifter.
The frame is solid and the suspension appears stock with disc brakes up front and drums in the rear. The 12-bolt houses 3.55:1 posi-traction gears.
The body on the El Camino appears to be solid and to have had a color change from the original blue. There’s no evidence of bubbling around the tailgate, rocker panels, or lower door areas. The exterior chrome is in good condition, and all the tinted glass is clear. All the exterior lights, turn signals, and brake light’s function. Back up lights do not.
The interior is the original black vinyl bench seat with matching carpeting and door panels. There is no evidence of broken seams or tears in the material. The dash pad is cracked. The factory gauges function including the tachometer. Only the clock does not work. The radio appears to be a ‘Retro’ unit with AM/FM/Bluetooth.
If you are looking for a great driver to attend local car shows and cruise-in’s this SS 396 should fit your bill.
