The ’56 was purchased more than 20 years ago with the current two-tone paint, engine, interior, and transmission. The owner added the Dakota Digital dashboard & clock, Vintage Air & Heat (compressor is missing), 4-wheel power disc brakes, new gas tank & lines, and the American Torque Thrust Wheels & tires. Exact total mileage of the car is not known. Odometer currently shows 250.
The body on the car shows well, from a distance. It looks like a single stage enamel. The original color was Harbor Blue. The Marena Blue was added later. There are some scratches and some bubbling, but overall, it is very solid. Exterior chrome is in fair to good condition. No evidence of pitting. All the glass is in excellent condition. Headlights, turn signals, and brake lights function. No wiper motor.
The interior appears to be original and in good condition. Owner added the digital dashboard, tilt steering column, carpeting, seatbelts, and aftermarket AM/FM/Cassette player.
The 350 cu in Chevy V8 uses a Carter AFB carburetor on top of an Edelbrock intake manifold with a Pertronics ignition, and stock exhaust manifolds. A March pulley system was added along with a single wire alternator. Aluminum radiator with thermostatically controlled electric fan keeps the car around 190 degrees. Dual exhaust system uses FlowMaster mufflers with short tailpipes.
Suspension has been redone with a heavy-duty sway bar up front with polyurethane bushings, power steering, and CPP tubular upper control arms. The CPP 4-wheel power brake system was added but needs some adjustment. Rear suspension is stock with new spring bolts and bushings. Wheels measure 18” up front and 20” in the rear. Tires are Firestone Firehawk 225/40/18 front and 245/40/20 rear.
Observations:
Overall, it is a great driver and draws attention wherever it goes. It needs a little TLC which includes the A/C compressor and adjustment to the brakes. It does appear the front end may have been repainted at some point, but not by the recent owner. A new battery was added and the Chevy starts and runs great. The starter makes a slight noise when you turn the ignition off too fast.
