Body & Paint:
The Camaro started as a Citrus Green RS and was built in the Van Nuys CA plant. The present owner bought the car from a dealership in the mid-west shortly after it had been restored. It appears that all of the body panels are intact and there is little to no evidence of ‘Bondo’. The 2-stage urethane paint looks great, and the stripes are under the clear. There are some flaws and chips, so please view all the photos.
Engine & Transmission:
The Chevrolet 350 cu. in. V8 ‘crate’ motor is rated at approximately 350 horsepower and apparently had an after market hydraulic cam added for a little more “thump” at idle. It sounds good and runs strong. Other options include an HEI ignition, ceramic coated headers, and a 750 cfm double pumper carburetor. New exhaust systems uses single large muffler and 2 ½” exhaust like and original Z/28.
The Turbo 350 transmission was rebuilt with about a 2800 stall converter and shift kit.
Chassis:
Front and rear suspension appear stock with new hardware like power brakes (front disc, rear drum), power steering, shocks, bushings, and tie rod ends. The owner believes the 10-Bolt rear differential has a 3.55:1 posi-traction unit in it. The tires are B.F. Goodrich radials on 15” American Racing Wheels, measuring 215/65R/15 front and 255/60R/15 rear. It steers easily and stops quickly.
Interior:
The interior color was changed from Dark Green to black with new upholstery, headliner, door panels, and dash. The gauges are new (unknown manufacturer) and fit into the original locations in the dashboard. An aftermarket Kenwood AM/FM/CD player was added with 4-speaker stereo.
Overall impression: this Z/28 tribute looks, runs, and drives like an original. If you are looking for a great cruiser that’s reliable, has current era creature comforts, can bring home a trophy or two, and catches an eye wherever it goes. This is the Camaro for you.
