Sold and transported from Reisterstown, MD to Knoxville, TN. For sale by a private party (was) this 1965 Ford Mustang Convertible powered by the original 200 cu. in. “Thrift Power” inline 6-cylinder engine rated at 120 horsepower and backed by a C4 automatic transmission. According to the current owner (#3), who has had the car for about 8 years, the Mustang was restored more than 20 years ago and repainted in “Sky Blue” enamel and not the factory original color, Guardsman blue. Unfortunately, there is no paperwork on the build.
- There doesn’t seem to be much in the way of bodywork in the Mustang. The quarter panels appear solid as well as the doors and fenders. The rocker panels show some age and a few bubbles (see photos). The torque boxes look to be in very good condition.
- The interior was re-done in the original blue and white vinyl with blue carpeting and a white convertible power top and boot. There are no tears or rips in the upholstery or top and all the factory gauges and courtesy lights work. An after-market AM/FM radio with kick-panel speakers was added to appear like a factory unit.
- The engine had the cylinder head removed and hardened valve seats installed as well as inspection of the pistons and cylinder walls, shortly after the present owner purchased the Mustang. Additionally, a new water pump, rebuilt carburetor, some repair to wiring harness and a tune up were done and only 2,000 miles have been logged on the car since then.
- The C4 transmission was serviced at the same time as the engine, and it shifts smoothly.
- The stock Mustang suspension had new ball joints, tie rod ends, brakes with hardware, and shocks installed. The 14” tires are about 10 years old.
- Electrically all the exterior and interior light’s function including the turn signals and brake lights.
- The only mechanical issue to note is a “noise” coming from a warped pulley on the harmonic balancer (watch video). It does not seem to affect the performance of the Mustang and has been there for 8 years. It still starts easily and runs smoothly. Also, recently the speedometer/odometer stopped working.
- Included with the car are the factory jack and lug wrench, tool bag, spare tire cover, floor mats, and a plastic cowl vent cover.
- Selling for personal reasons.
