The exact timeline and mileage of the restoration is not known. Only that the current owner purchased the car from the mid-west several years ago after it had been restored. He has only driven it approximately 800 miles attending local shows and parades.
The current owner did go through the Studebaker and replaced the brake system including the master cylinder, shoes, and hardware; the front and rear bumpers & guards were replated, and new 205/75R/15 wide white-wall tires were added. Please note cars of this vintage do not have power steering or power brakes.
The Champion is in excellent condition for a 75-year-old Classic. The paint and bodywork look very good with no evidence of bubbling or cracking anywhere. It appears to be a 2-stage paint job (basecoat, clearcoat). All the glass looks good and original. It does show some age (see photos), but no cracks or chips. Windows and vent wings operate easily.
The exterior lights work including turn signals, brake, reverse, and high beams.
The interior was restored in the original cloth material and looks excellent. The dashboard shows very well and all the factory gauges and options work, including the vacuum wipers. Only the clock does not function. The radio was upgraded to an AM/FM unit and uses the outside antenna for reception.
As you can see from the video this Studebaker Champion starts runs and rides like a true Classic. It is ideal for cruise-in events or even parades. There appears to be no leaks and according to the owner it does not use oil. Overall, it is a great piece of American Automotive history anyone would enjoy owning and driving.
