The body of this 1940 is all steel with only some minor bodywork in the quarter panels behind each door. All the floors and inner fender wells look original and solid. The 30 y.o. lacquer paint is starting to show some age, but it still looks good. Please look at all photos and the video carefully.
Power comes from the original 216 cu. in. in-line 6 cylinder rated at 85 horsepower and it is backed by the matching 3-speed manual transmission which is a column shift. The charging system remains 6-volt. The starter button is still located on the floor with a ‘throttle’ and ‘choke’ on the dashboard.
The interior was redone in the original cloth style and shows little to no wear without any broken seams or tears. All the original gauges function including the heat and clock. The radio is a 1946 unit and does not work.
It appears the engine, transmission, suspension, brakes, were all done when the car was restored, and it starts easily and rides like a 1940 Chevrolet. No power steering or power brakes.
All the glass is in very good condition without any bubbling or “milk haze” showing. Exterior chrome is good and the spotlight as well as the fog lights work.
Recent work performed by the current owner includes the installation of a stainless-steel gas tank and sending unit, stainless-steel exhaust system, new front end bushings, LED taillights (which can be returned to the original with the included housing and bulbs), a relay for the front headlights to make them brighter, and new 16” Diamond radial tires.
The only known issue is the transmission which does have a minor leak. It does not affect the shifting or drivability of the car but needs to be monitored periodically.
Owner selling for personal reasons.
