The owner purchased the Comet over 30 years ago as a stock 289 cu in 4-speed with 225 horsepower and drove it for about 15 years. Then an 8-year transformation took place to what the Cyclone looks like now. Since its completion it has been driven about 6,000 miles attending cruise-ins and local car shows. Recently, and less than 500 miles ago, the engine was refreshed and had a solid roller cam added in place of the hydraulic one. Please note this is a street car that runs on pump gas.
This Cyclone is a great example of a reliable and quick, show worthy “Muscle Car” of the 1960’s. No disappointments.
SPECIFICATIONS:
Body & Paint:
The Comet was basically rust free when it was purchased. The 2-stage urethane paint is approximately 10 years old and the only bodywork performed were two small areas behind the rear wheels. The AFX hood and front bumper are fiberglass (original hood and bumper are included) There appear to be no cracks or bubbles in the paint. Some of the chrome trim was replaced around the fender wells and front & rear windows (note the top piece of trim for the rear window is not in place but is included with the sale).
All the glass is in good condition except for a few scratches on the side glass. Chrome is in good condition.
Engine & Transmission:
393 cu. in stroker Cleveland engine which was professionally built by JB Machine of Baltimore, MD. Forged crank & pistons with 10.5:1 compression to run on pump gas. An AED prepared Holley 850 cfm carburetor sits on a Weiand Xcelerator intake manifold with ported Cleveland 2-V cylinder heads. The solid roller camshaft is a Bullet racing item with 252/260 duration at .050, roller rockers, stud girdle, larger push rods, full length headers, MSD ignition with 6AL box, high volume oil pump and 9-quart oil pan.
Exhaust system uses 2 ½” pipes with FlowMaster mufflers with cut-outs.
The AOD transmission was rebuilt with a 4,000-stall converter, transmission cooler, and shift kit with a forward shift pattern. When put into drive, it shifts through all the gears, not a manual valve body.
Chassis:
Heidts welded in rack & pinion steering with non-power disc brakes up front and drums in the rear. Welded in frame connectors and shock towers removed. Polyurethane bushings and sway bar ends. Rear springs were moved in to accommodate the larger tires. No wheel tubs. Lakewood style traction bars attached to a 9” Ford differential with 4.10:1 posi-traction gears and 31-spline axles. Please note steering and brakes are not power. American Racing Torque Thrust 15” Wheels with 165/80R/15 Firestone front tires and Hooser 27/11.5/15 Quick Time Drag Radials on the rear.
Interior:
Reupholstered stock Cyclone bucket seats with new carpeting and Drag Pack gauges (all function). Other aftermarket gauges include a Sun tachometer, shift light, Sunpro water temperature, oil pressure, and voltmeter. Lokar shifter handles the AOD and line-lock was added.
