Body & Paint:
The paint and bodywork were performed by the prior owner approximately 26 years ago in a 2-stage Pearl White. The original vinyl top section was replaced with a Chevrolet minivan roof. For its age, the Hudson still shows well. There are some age-related cracks in the glass fenders and a scratch on the back (see photos). No rust or bubbling is evident in the body. The doors open with a release underneath the running boards or you can open the driver’s door with a ‘popper’. There are no sides to the hood. Both cowl vents work.
All exterior lights and turn signals function.
Engine & Transmission:
The 351 Windsor was rebuilt using an Edelbrock Performance Kit which included a hydraulic roller cam, aluminum heads, intake manifold and 600 cfm carburetor. The Hudson starts high torque starter and a Mallory ignition system. The engine is kept cool with a thermostatically controlled electric fan and an oversized radiator. The dual exhaust exits the rear using shorty headers with 2 ½” pipes and Turbo Mufflers which sound great.
The C4 transmission was also rebuilt with a shift kit and a stall converter.
Interior:
The red cloth interior was unchanged from the original build and it still looks great. No broken seams or tears. You will notice the word “HUDSON” is tastefully embroidered into the vertical section of the back seat. All the gauges function as well as the stereo which is mounted in a wooden console above the driver. The steering column is an Ididit tilt item with a shift selector. Windows are in good condition and roll up and down easily.
Chassis:
Stock Hudson frame with a Fat Man Stub independent rack & pinion front end welded in place. Rear differential is a 10-bolt Chevrolet with leaf springs and houses 3.25:1 open gears. The battery is located on the frame under the floor with an access panel, but there are external positive and negative terminals mounted on the frame too. Brakes are power with discs front and drums rear.
Wheels are American Racing Polished Torque Thrusts 14” front and 15” rear with 195/60R/14’s and 275/60R/15’s B.F. Goodrich radial tires.
Overall, the ’30 Hudson is in excellent mechanical condition and has been well maintained. The body does show some age, but for a great and unique Street Rod it fits the bill for anyone looking to cruise anywhere.
