1969 Rambler 440 station wagon Street Rod / Street Machine. This classic is powered by the original 290 cu. in. V-8 rated at 200 horsepower, but backed by a 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission and a 8.8” Ford rear differential.

  • This car is being sold as part of an estate and unfortunately, there are no records of the build nor its history. According to the family it was purchased approximately 13 years ago and driven about 2,000 miles (this is an estimate since the odometer does not work).
  • The body on the 440 appears to be solid with little body work, except for the hood scoop. All of the floors look solid and rust free. The orange metallic paint is a 2-stage and shows well with no evidence of bubbling or cracking. Accented pinstriping was also added. All the glass and exterior chrome look good. The tailgate and window operate smoothly.
  • The Rambler V-8 uses a Holley 2-barrel carburetor with an electric choke for easy starts. A chrome air cleaner and valve covers add to the detail of the engine compartment. The aluminum radiator, transmission cooler, and custom shroud help keep the wagon’s temperature in check. The dual exhaust uses Flow Master mufflers and tailpipes to give a nice mellow tone. But it should be noted that there is a slight exhaust manifold leak on the driver’s side (listen to video).
  • The vinyl interior, which include the seats and door panels were done in orange and beige vinyl. It shows no evidence of broken seams or wear. Custom aluminum door handles and window cranks were also added. The carpeting is in fair condition with a few stains. The factory and after market gauges all function (except the odometer) as well as the wipers, dash lights, and turn signal indicators. The shift selector was customized for the 700R4 transmission.
  • The suspension looks to be lowered by 2” with dropped front spindles and lower blocks in the rear. It also has power steering, a dual bail master cylinder (non-power) with disc brakes front and drums in the rear. The 15” aluminum wheels are by Rocket with Cooper radial 235/60R/15’s all the way around (date coded 2011). It is believed the 8.8” Ford differential has 3.23:1 (open) gears which are great for the highway with the 4-speed automatic transmission.
  • Overall, the wagon is in good shape and makes a great family cruiser for car shows and weekend events. The only issue appears to be the fiberglass hood which was added to the steel hood (see photos).
