This is a show stopping custom 1962 Chevrolet Corvette originally owned and shown by Bob Raines. It’s 70’s vintage candy red LACQUER paint that was applied by legendary painter Chip Wittington of ‘Chip’s East Coast Kustoms’ in Springfield VA still shows well for its age. Yes, there is some “age patina” (see photos) but remember…..its 48 years old!!

THIS CAR HAS NOT BEEN REFURBISHED OR TOUCHED UP AND IT CAN BE DRIVEN ON THE STREET!!!

The basic theme for Cherry Smash combined the 60’s style ’Gasser’ drag cars with the flash and ‘bling’ of the 1970’s.

Speaking of ‘bling’, let’s talk chrome. According to various periodicals which featured Cherry Smash more than $25,000 was spent on chrome plating throughout the car. That’s in 1970’s dollars. Move up to 2023 dollars and it comes closer to $200,000!!

Even after all these years in storage, Cherry Smash has still proven to be a winner when attending the 2022 “Dead Man’s Curve” Car show and Cruise-in, the car was selected as the top show car out of more than 4,000 entries. Not too shabby for a 50-year-old build.

Since the Corvette’s completion in 1974 it has been primarily a “Trailer Queen”, with limited mileage on the street (324 miles). To make it street ready a complete exhaust system would need to be added, turn signals, brake lights, etc. Please note the car is being sold “AS IS”.

SPECIFICATIONS

    Body & Paint

  • Custom hand-made one-piece tilt-forward front end which was built by molding the hood and fenders together.
  • The inner fender panels were retained and painted a candy tangerine to accentuate the chrome in the engine compartment.
  • Custom hood opening for the supercharger and carburetor.
  • Hand formed and radius rear wheel wells with flares.
    Engine & Transmission

  • 331 cu. in. small block Chevrolet highly detailed with paint and chrome, using a GMC 4-71 supercharger underdriven 30%.
  • Forged True pistons with billet rods and an HTC prepared crankshaft.
  • Roller cam is by Crower with a Mallory ignition system.
  • Headers are custom made and plated.
  • Transmission is a Muncie 4-speed unit which has chrome accents and uses a Schiefer clutch pack with a Hurst shifter.
    Interior

  • Professionally upholstered seats, door panels, trunk area, and roll bar by Master Upholstery of Denville, NJ using orange and cherry velour (or crushed velvet per the ‘70’s). You will notice the steering wheel has a “hiccup” in each spoke.
  • It is believed to be a one-of-a-kind Superior item which was modified for Bob Raines.
  • Aftermarket gauges include Sun Super Tach (not working) and water temperature and oil pressure gauge
    Chassis & Differential

  • 1962 Corvette frame is not stock.
  • First, the center ‘X’ section was replaced with a custom square tubing unit. Then all the welds were ground smooth before more of the candy tangerine lacquer paint with overlays was applied.
  • Replacing the stock front end is a chromed straight axle with matching chrome springs. Four-wheel disc brakes handle the stopping with again, chrome rotors. While out back a 1957 Pontiac differential with 4.11:1 gears and Strange axles handles the power.
  • Original Crager wheels with Stahl 15” racing tires (front) and 30/12.50/15 M/T Street Drag Radials (rear)
