This is a two owner 1972 Mercury Cougar XR7 convertible (1 of only 1,929 built) powered by the original 351 c.i. Cleveland engine (2-barrel version) with 62,000 original miles. Most of the factory options function including the power top, sequential taillights, and radio.

Original owner received the Cougar as a graduation present in 2B bright red with a black interior and top. Several years later they painted the car in Porsche red Dupont Imron. Current owner’s father bought the car in 1988 with 56,000 original miles on it and then sold it to his son in 1994 who has had the car ever since. Never abused, raced, or driven in snow.
The interior is the original leather XR 7 and in exceptionally good condition except for the stitching separating on the driver’s seat. The original carpeting did fade and was replaced several years ago. The car has always been well maintained and garage kept. Receipts for all work will accompany the car.
Since the current family has owned the car, it has never been in an accident and there appears to be no body work. The Cougar was also ‘Zebarted’ back in 1989. This is a form of rust proofing which has all but gone by the wayside. Although the paint is showing its age, the chrome and glass are in excellent condition and the windows go up and down easily. The top works great (see video) and was replaced once. There are two small tears in it, one on each side of the center brace. The rear window is plastic and has yellowed. The ‘boot’ for the top is new.
The 351 c.i. Cleveland starts easily and was recently treated to an Edelbrock Performer intake manifold and Holley ‘Street Fighter’ 670 cfm carburetor. It has brought the car ‘to life’ in the way of performance.
It is backed by the original 3-speed automatic transmission with a 2.75:1 rear differential (open).
New tires were recently added as well as new brakes and hardware.
The A/C did work. When the owner replaced the heater core approximately 8 years ago, he never reconnected it since the car was driven to car shows and cruise events with the top down. All parts to reconnect it are included.
This XR 7 is a blast to drive and draws attention wherever it goes.

Around 2011 I started an online service assisting owners of Classic, Vintage, and Muscle cars to sell their vehicles without them leaving the garage.
