Beautiful and what some would claim, “numbers matching”, 1971 Chevelle SS 454, LS-5, 365 h.p. “Cowl Induction” with a 400 Turbo Hydromatic 3-speed automatic transmission and painted in the original ‘Antique Green’ with white stripes. This 59,995 original mile SS was built in the Arlington, Texas plant. Unfortunately, there are NO documents nor receipts for the history and work performed on the car.

Approximately 12 years and 2000 miles ago the prior owner had this SS restored from the frame up using both new and NOS parts. The restoration included a rebuild of the #’s matching 454 c.i. engine (CPD 02814 and casting 3963512) using stock 9.5:1 compression ratio pistons and a factory spec hydraulic cam. The block, heads, exhaust and intake manifolds appear original to the car. The distributor is an HEI unit so the big block is easy to start. The Quadrajet 4-barrel carburetor is a direct replacement item for this particular Chevelle and the original one is included.
Additionally, the Turbo 400 and the 12-bolt positraction 3.73 gears are also original and were rebuilt. Unfortunately, the fan shroud was recently broken and has not been replaced.
When the restoration was done, the owner preferred a white interior versus the original ‘Jade Green’. But instead of reupholstering the original seats & panels, he purchased an entirely new interior and kept the original items in case the next owner wanted to change them back. The original interior is included with the sale (see photos) and in good condition.
As far as the paint and body go, the door skins, fenders, and floors appear to be original to the SS. The exterior was painted in a 2-stage urethane using the original ‘Antique Green’. Although the original SS 454’s came with a ‘decal’ style set of white stripes, these are painted on top of the clear. The door jams and some of the edging on the rocker panels show the original factory paint (see photos). The ‘Cowl Induction’ hood functions too. Please note there are some ‘chips’ and scratches in the paint because the car was not a ‘Trailer Queen’.
The Chevelle was rewired, had new brakes and hardware added (power w/discs front and drums rear), and all the factory gauges including the radio function normally except the clock (which did work up until 6 months ago).
I do not profess to be the ‘ultimate’ expert on SS Chevelles, but I did notice the steering wheel and Flowmaster mufflers are not period correct.

Around 2011 I started an online service assisting owners of Classic, Vintage, and Muscle cars to sell their vehicles without them leaving the garage.
