Professionally restored 1985 GMC Suburban K2500 High Sierra powered by a 383 c.i. Chevrolet ‘stroker’ engine running a hydraulic flat tappet cam, Merlin heads, headers, and a Quick Fuel carburetor. This is backed by the factory SM465 4-speed transmission, which was rebuilt, including a new clutch pack assembly.

The “frame-on” build was completed just over a year and 3000 miles ago, starting with a low mileage ’85 Suburban from the Midwest, which was then taken apart and repainted in the original beige enamel paint throughout the interior and exterior. The two front fenders and hood were replaced but the remainder of the body panels are original. After the repaint, POR 15 was used to seal the floor and sound deadener was added in the headliner.
The interior is still the original cloth and looks very good except for a small ‘worn’ area on the back seat. The rear third-row seat is the original leather item and in excellent condition. The carpeting and headliner are new. The dash was refinished, including a new speedometer showing the total miles since completion. Additionally, an up-to-date Bluetooth radio w/ multiple speakers replaces the original system.
The A/C and heating system is new, including the compressor and blower motor. It uses R134 refrigerant.
The chassis and suspension were taken apart and reassembled using a 3” lift kit, Bilstein shocks, Performance Steering Components power steering box with dual steering dampers, Borgenson shaft & rag joint, polyurethane sway bar bushings, and complete power brake system with disc front and drums rear. Grabber A/T 285/75R/16 tires by General complete the ride. Both front and rear differentials were rebuilt with new seals and run 4.10:1 gears.
The Suburban is fun to drive, draws attention, and is a great towing vehicle.
