There is limited information about this Chevrolet because it was purchased 4 years ago without any documentation. What’s known is that it came from the factory as a Forest Green, vinyl top, and black stripes SS with a black interior and the car was a 396 4-speed. The prior owner did the color change and restoration using a 2-stage urethane.
It appears the rear quarter panels, inner fender panels and rocker panels were replaced when the restoration was done. There does not appear to be any rust, but there are some imperfections (see photos). The floors and frame appear solid.
The engine was rebuilt and had a more aggressive hydraulic cam installed along with a Holley Sniper EFI system, electronic ignition, and headers. The exhaust system uses 2 ½” pipes with FlowMaster mufflers. The SS runs on premium pump gas.
The interior has been redone including the front and rear seats, door panels, dash, and carpeting. The factory gauges all function except for the tachometer. But the Holley Sniper monitor on the dash does show the RPM’s for shifting purposes. A Hurst shifter handles the Muncie transmission.
The suspension appears to be stock with new bushings and shocks. The power brake system is new including the power booster and master cylinder. The B.F. Goodrich radial tires measure 215/70R/14 and are mounted on the stock Magnum 500 style SS wheels.
Overall, this Classic SS 396 is a fantastic looker and draws attention wherever it goes. The EFI system makes the car easy to start, idle smoothly, and reliable.
