Please note that specific information about the car’s build is not available because it is being sold by an estate and no records accompany the vehicle. The title is dated 1981 and the total actual mileage since the owner purchased the car is just over 32,000.
This Z28 does start easily, runs, and drives but, due to the rear tires rubbing, a test drive was not recommended.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION:
Chevrolet 302 cu. in. small block with a ‘DZ’ designation and date of V0402 DZ. Cylinder heads are the larger 2.02” valve items and it sounds like the car is running a solid lifter cam shaft. It is also running a “gear drive” instead of a timing belt. Weiand high rise single plane manifold with a Demon 850 cfm double pumper carburetor sits on top. Ignition is a converted Mallory dual point distributor with a Pertronics conversion and Mallory coil. Ceramic coated headers empty into 2 ½” exhaust with FlowMaster mufflers and tailpipes. Thermostatically controlled electric fans appear to keep the car cool. Estimated compression is 11:1. The NO2 solenoid does not appear to be connected, but there is an electric fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator.
A blow proof bell housing contains the clutch pack and an M-21 close ratio 4-speed with a Hurst shifter handles the gears.
BODY & PAINT:
The date of the repaint is unknown, but all the floors, panels, doors, etc. appear original. It is believed the cowl induction hood did not come on this car, because the original (which is included) had a hole cut for a supercharger. The Garnet Red paint appears to be a 2-stage urethane, and the painted stripes are under the clear. There are a few chips and a little bubbling (see photos). The glass is in excellent condition and the windows go up and down easily. The chrome bumpers are in fair condition and no rear bumper guards are included. Trim around the windows is in very good condition.
Electrically, all exterior lights, turn signals, and wipers function.
INTERIOR:
Much of the interior appears to be original including the dashboard, console, seat backs, seatbelts, gauges, and door panels. The seats, headliner, and carpets may have been reupholstered at some time. All the gauges function including the clock and tachometer.
CHASSIS & DIFFERENTIAL:
Stock front end with power disc brakes front and drums rear. New lines have been installed. Parking brake works. The rear has an added swaybar for traction along with “slapper” bars. The wheels are 15” vintage Centerline’s with McCreary 4-ply tires measuring 6×15 front and 285/60/15 in the rear.
