Beautiful 1968 Ford Mustang GT Fastback with the numbers matching High Performance 302 c.i. V-8 rated at 230 h.p., C-4 automatic transmission and 3.25:1, 8” open differential.
According to the Kevin Marti (see photo) report this is a ONE-OF-ONE Mustang GT produced in 1968. The main reason is the factory A/C, which has been converted over to R124A and does blow cold air. Additionally, this GT has a bench seat, and apparently, 1968 was the last year one could be ordered in this model.
As mentioned in the Marti report this GT was originally purchased in Mississippi and according to known history, it spent most of its life in the “rust-free” areas of the southwest.
Approximately 13 years ago this GT went through a restoration which included new Ford ‘Candy Apple’ paint (2-stage urethane), a rebuild of the engine, and a new, original interior. There appears to be no replacement of any body panels or evidence of ‘Bondo’. Torque boxes are solid (see photos). As far as the quality of the paint, it is a solid 8 out of 10 (see photos). Over the years a few chips and cracks developed, but the car still shows well.
Everything on the car works like it did in 1968. Some upgrades include a Holley carburetor and a factory original AM/FM radio (originally it came with only AM). The odometer reads 31000 and is believed to be the mileage since restoration.
As the photos also show, the front and rear suspension has been recently serviced with new bushings, ball joints, and idler arm. The brakes were also inspected, and they are the factory-style power disc front and drum rear. The tires are 215/70R/15.
Current owner put on a new water pump, new valve cover and oil pan gaskets, exhaust system, and rebuilt the transmission. There is no evidence of any leaks, and the Mustang starts easily and performs well.
Included with the sale is an indoor car cover, new door weather stripping, window felt, and paint for a touch-up.
