Engine & transmission:
The 290 cu in engine was bored to approximately 301 cu in, align honed and decked. The reciprocating assembly was balanced, and an aftermarket Crane hydraulic cam was added. It also has an electronic ignition, Offenhauser dual-port intake manifold, Holley 600 cfm carburetor, and headers with dual exhaust. For cooling a custom aluminum radiator has been added. No over heating.
The transmission is the stock Borg Warner T10.
Body & Paint:
This Javelin has had the lower rear sections of the panels, rocker panels and areas of the doors replaced with ‘patch’ panels and then repainted the original dark green. For a 10–12-year-old 2 stage paint job it looks good (see photos). Floors are solid with a patch panel on the driver’s side. Chrome and glass are in good condition.
Chassis:
Recently the brake system had new lines, shoes, master cylinder, and wheel cylinders. A new parking brake cable was installed. Shocks were done several years ago. Tires are 5 y.o. 225/60R/14 B.F. Goodrich radials.
The rear differential is believed to be the stock (open) 3.54:1 and was rebuilt when the engine was done. Has factory power steering.
Interior:
The interior looks good. The front seats were redone at some point to try and match the original pattern of the back. Carpeting was also replaced. The headliner does sag slightly. The factory gauges including the speedometer/odometer work as well as the aftermarket Sun tach, oil pressure, and water temperature gauges. The door panels are in good condition. There is a ‘lock handle’ missing on the passenger door arm rest, so a piece of dowl was installed.
Overall:
This Javelin looks, runs, and drives good. It shifts and accelerates smoothly and rides well. There doesn’t seem to be any leaks, and it does not overheat. It is great for attending local cruise-in’s or weekend drives.
