Body & Paint:
The “Hell Rot” red paint is a BMW color 2-stage urethane and is in very good condition. There appears to be no bubbling in the paint or rust. The floors are excellent, and the body is straight. There are a few chips and scrapes (see photos) due to age. The convertible tan top is in excellent condition, and a matching tonneau cover is included too. All the exterior chrome and glass are in excellent condition. The car was totally rewired when it was rebuilt and all the exterior lights work as well as the wipers.
Engine & Transmission:
The 2.1L engine was decked, align honed, and stuffed with 11:1 forged pistons. The crank was nitrited and the rotating assembly was externally balanced. The cam is an Elgin solid lifter with .323 lift and .294 duration. Rocker arm ratio is 1.38:1. Cylinder heads were treated to a competition porting and flow tested. The ignition is by Pertronix with an MSD box. Powder coated headers with ‘true’ dual exhaust, dual Weber 45 DCOE’s and an engine dyno tuned to 156 horsepower. The alternator is a single wire 80-amp item. A new clutch pack was installed with a 12# Paco aluminum flywheel.
The Laycock overdrive transmission was rebuilt and shifts easily into each gear and the overdrive.
Chassis:
New 420# road/sprint springs front and back, Nylatron bushings, SPAX shocks, dual circuit power brake system, braided brake lines, new torsion bar, new steering rack, reinforced rear ‘A’ arm brackets, 4.10:1 rear differential with new ‘U’ joints, half-shafts, and swing axles.
Interior:
New carpeting, door panels, and recovered seats. Refinished walnut wood dash. All gauges function. Speedometer was rebuilt and recalibrated.
This is a great performing TR 4A which has all the right ‘stuff’ for attending a vintage road rally or just taking on back country roads. The new owner will not be disappointed.
