1966 Chevelle 2-Door sedan “post” car powered by a 496 c.i. Big Block Chevrolet engine backed by a Turbo 400 3-speed automatic transmission and putting the power to the ground with a 12-bolt posi-traction differential.

Owner purchased the car 13 years ago as you see it. He added the big block with all the braided lines, oversized aluminum radiator with thermostatically controlled fans shortly after the purchase. Total mileage on the engine is about 3,000.

The red 2-stage urethane paint looks good for the street but is not flawless (see photos). Four-inch cowl hood is the only fiberglass piece on the car, and Autometer fuel pressure and oil pressure gauges are mounted on the cowl.

The interior has aftermarket Autometer gauges (water temperature, and voltmeter, and Monster Tachometer). The speedometer and stock gauges do not work. Toggle switches control the ignition, fans, and fuel pump. Lightweight racing bucket seats with 5-point racing harnesses replace the stock bench unit and a B&M Pro Rachet shifter handles the Turbo 400.

The 496 c.i. Chevy engine uses aluminum heads and 9.5:1 compression ratio pistons to run on pump gas. A Quik Fuel 850cfm carburetor is mounted on an Edelbrock high rise intake manifold while an MSD billet distributor, Blaster coil, and 6AL handle the ignition. The cam is hydraulic and quite ‘lumpy’ as you can hear in the video. Exact lift and duration is not known. Ceramic-coated long tube headers and a 2 1/2” complete exhaust sends the spent gases out back. A March aluminum pulley system handles the high output alternator and power steering. Heavy duty aluminum radiator with both electric and mechanical fans keeps the engine and transmission cool.

The monster motor is fed from a Holley black electric fuel pump and 16-gallon fuel cell mounted in the trunk. The Nitrous bottle is strictly for show.

The Turbo 400 Transmission has been treated to a 3000-stall converter and manual valve body.

The chassis uses the stock Chevelle frame and front suspension with new parts, including polyurethane bushings. The 12-bolt posi-traction differential houses 3.73:1 gears and uses QA1 adjustable coil over shocks, ladder bars, and a watts linkage to put the power to the pavement. Stopping power is done with power brakes (disc front & drums rear).

Tire sizes are 275/60R/15 Nitto Extreme Drag with Billet Specialties wheels on the back. And 225/70R/15 Cooper radials with Chevrolet Rally wheels up front.

Needless to say, the Chevelle draws attention wherever it goes and has won its share of awards.

I have been an active eBay seller of cars and other items for more than 20 years and maintained a 100% rating during most of that period. Approximately 12 years ago, I started an online service assisting owners of Classic, Vintage, and Muscle cars to sell their vehicles on the internet without them leaving the garage. These are private individual owners who do not want to deal with the public and all the endless phone calls, “Tire kickers,” and other nonsense that goes on when trying to sell a car. They just want someone to sell it!!
