Recent work performed includes new brake lines, wheel cylinders and a tune up. It does look like the starter, fuel pump, belts and hoses have recently been replaced. The Riviera starts easily and drives smoothly.
Also, it should be noted that the exact mileage cannot be verified since the speedometer/odometer does not work. It is believed only 500 miles were put on the car since it was purchased approximately 8 years ago for the collection.
The re-paint of the Marlin Blue looks to be very good and done in a 2-stage urethane. Besides the body, the door jams were done and look great. To the naked eye, the body is very straight and little to no replacement panels or bodywork. The frame and floors are original and solid. The exterior glass and chrome are also in very good condition. Please be sure to view all the photos.
The 401 cu in V8 does not appear to burn any oil and there are no apparent leaks. The 2-speed transmission shifts smoothly and does not slip. The exhaust system appears to be new, but due to the car not being driven much, the rear resonator has developed some rust, see photos.
The interior appears to be very original except for the carpeting, front seats, and a console panel on the passenger side. The seats were reupholstered in the factory pattern. The factory gauges function (except the speedo/odometer) including the AM radio, power antenna, power windows, and power seats. The clock does not work.
The suspension is stock, and it looks like the shocks were recently replaced. It should be noted that the front end should be aligned. The Buick tends to drift to the right.
The overall appearance and performance of the Riviera is excellent and would be a great cruiser at local car shows and cruise-in’s. This is an excellent example of the first year and first-generation Buick Riviera. No disappointments.
