Sold & transported from Severna Park, MD to Virginia, MN. Beautiful example of a traditionally restored 1958 Chevrolet Corvette powered by a 355 cu. in. small block Chevrolet and backed by and M21 Muncie close ratio 4-speed transmission. The build was completed approximately 20 years ago and has been driven about 2,000 miles to local shows, parades, and cruise-in events.
NO TRADES
- The body appears to be in very good condition as well as straight. The black enamel shows well for its age but has a few small chips and cracks on the hood, driver’s door, and left front fender (please view all photos). Most of the exterior chrome and stainless are in very good condition. The “ribs” on the trunk lid as well as the rear taillights show some pitting. The exterior glass looks clear without fogging or cracks. The front windshield is tinted and please note there is no convertible top.
- The interior was redone with black vinyl seats, a new dash pad, and carpeting. The door panels appear to be original items with the top sections having been painted black. The factory fuel, temperature, speedometer/odometer, voltage, and oil pressure gauges all function. The factory tachometer and clock do not. Aftermarket Autometer tach was added along with an AM/FM/Cassette player which does work.
- According to the owner the engine is a 1973 350 cu. in. Chevy small block with a .030” overbore to 355 cu. in. Internally, the engine was blueprinted, runs 10:1 compression ratio pistons with a solid lifter cam. The heads had a performance valve job with hardened seats for unleaded gas. The carburetor is a 700 cfm Holley double pumper with an electric choke, and it sits on an Edelbrock Victor Jr. single-plane intake manifold. HEI distributor with a late model alternator adds the spark to the engine, and ceramic coated Hooker headers with “Smitty” style mufflers handle the exhaust through the rear bumpers.
- The transmission is a Muncie M21 close ratio 4-speed which uses a Hurst shifter and a 10.5” clutch to go through the gears. Also, a Lakewood bell housing was added.
- The suspension and manual steering were restored to stock specs and that includes the 4-wheel drum brakes. The rear differential is a Hotchkis unit and houses 3.70:1 posi traction gears. Vintage Lakewood style traction bars were added along with the 15” Tru-Spoke wire wheels wearing Cooper 225/70R/15 radial tires.
- Overall, the Corvette shows very well, runs great, and draws attention wherever it goes.
- Selling for personal reasons.
