It is a great driving car that draws attention wherever it goes, and it starts easily and runs smoothly.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION:
It is not known if the engine and transmission were rebuilt, but recent maintenance has been done which includes adjusting the valves, new high volume water pump, rebuilt power steering unit with lines, upgraded radiator to 4-rows, rebuilt factory carburetor with electric choke, and Pertronics ignition parts (no points or condenser). Exhaust system is dated.
Transmission is ‘fluid cooled’ and shifts smoothly.
BODY & PAINT:
Repainted in Colonial White using a 2-stage urethane and it still shines like new (exact date is unknown). There appears to be little to know body work and no evidence of rust or bubbling. The undercarriage was undercoated at some point.
Convertible top is new as well as the bracing.
Removeable hardtop had new headliner and hardware added. Hardtop cart and cover are included.
Exterior chrome is in ‘show’ condition. Windows are all clear and without cracks. Exterior lights and turn signal’s function. Rear taillights are LED.
INTERIOR:
Current owner had the gauges serviced and they all work including the clock and tachometer. An aftermarket original style AM/FM/Cassette player was installed. Power seats and windows function normally. Seats, door panels, and carpeting were redone.
SUSPENSION & DIFFERENTIAL:
New front suspension parts including tie rod ends and shocks. Rear springs and bushings appear stock. Rear differential fluid was changed and the ring & pinion inspected. Running 3.31:1 (open) gears and riding on 15” wide white wall radial tires.
SUMMARY:
This is a great example of a first-generation Thunderbird. It has won numerous awards at local and regional shows. Easy to drive. No disappointments.

History on the truck is minimal. It was purchased about 12 years ago at auction in Carlisle, PA and shortly after it had been refurbished with what appears to be a very nice ‘frame-off’ build which included the new engine. Everything on the undercarriage appears to be in great condition.
There appears to be no bodywork, rust or bubbling anywhere in the bed or cab. The body is straight except for a slight ‘wave’ in the driver’s door (see photo). The lift up tonneau cover reveals a nicely preserved bed with only a few dings or blemishes.
The engine and transmission appear stock with an aftermarket Edelbrock carburetor and ‘wrapped’ headers. Options including power steering, power brakes (disc front & drums rear), and new A/C compressor (blows cold air) are in good working order. Dual exhaust uses FlowMaster mufflers and high flow catalytic converters. The transmission was rebuilt and does shift firmly.
The interior was redone with new carpeting and upholstery. All the factory gauges work except for the gas gauge which can occasionally waver. You can easily change between the two 16-gallon gas tanks using a dashboard switch. There is an aftermarket Pioneer AM/FM/CD player with 4-speakers (behind seat and in door panels), which sounds great. Dashboard is original but does show a few cracks.
The chassis looks stock except for a front stabilizer kit. New brake lines and hardware were added, and the transfer case appears to have been rebuilt. The K1500 rides on 31/10.5R/15 B.F. Goodrich All Terrain tires and the stock 8-lug wheels and trim rings.
Overall the truck runs and drives great. It shows like a new K1500 4×4. No disappointments.
