1953 Chevy Bel Air hardtop made to be a mild custom / ‘Rat Rod’. All the work on the car was performed by the owner over the past 10 years and he is selling to start another project. The car starts and runs great.

The Chevy started as a rust-free estate sale item which was stripped, sanded and straightened, before being painted ‘Hot Rod Flat’ Spruce green and Putty. The only ‘bodywork’ showed to be on the passenger side door and a small section on the rear quarter where apparently the car was sideswiped sometime in its life.

The 1953 235 c.i. 6-cylinder engine had new bearings installed, compression test run, rebuilt carburetor, basic tune-up, and split exhaust manifolds added. The stock two-speed iron Power Glide was serviced and the bands adjusted.

Much of the exterior chrome was either replated or replaced. The stainless is original. All of the glass is original and as you can see there are some bubbles, the passenger window is cracked and there is a ‘BB’ or nick in the windshield. Otherwise, the windows operate as normal.

Interior was redone by the owner as well using a National Chevy Society kit which included the carpeting, seat covering, and headliner.

The electric has been converted to 12-Volt. All the gauges and lights work. The only exception is the gas gauge which had a new sending unit added to the tank (along with a new tank and fuel lines) and an; accessory was added.

All of the brakes and brake hardware was replaced. The front end had new bushings and springs added. The rear springs had a 2” lower block added for the ‘cruising’ effect.

Tires are 14” bias ply. Extra parts are included Chrome front bumperettes, gas tank chrome, 2 stock radios (non-functioning).
