DESCRIPTION:

1936 Dodge (Dodge Bros.) 5-window coupe street rod powered by a late model small block Chevrolet V8, backed by a Turbo 350 3-speed automatic transmission, and 8” Ford differential. It appears to be all steel and was built in the early to mid-1990’s and well maintained over the years. The Dodge is being sold as part of a family doing some downsizing and there is not a lot of paperwork on the build. The odometer shows approximately 22,000 miles in over 30 years.

Engine & Transmission:

The late model 350 cu. in. Chevrolet motor is treated to an aftermarket hydraulic cam, Edelbrock intake and 600 cfm carburetor, HEI ignition, aftermarket radiator with electric fans, and headers with side exhausts. The fuel is fed from a stainless steel 16-gallon gas tank into a Holley electric fuel pump mounted on the frame. The battery box is mounted to the frame with an access door in the trunk. Battery is new.

The Turbo 350 transmission appears to have a manual valve body to shift through the gears.

Body & Paint:

The all-steel body looks fairly straight with little to no bodywork showing. The paint work appears to be a 2-stage urethane with “ghost flames” on the hood and fenders. There is evidence of age with some cracking a bubbles around the vinyl roof insert (see photos). There are also sections of the car (hood and passenger door) which have “pimples” showing. Usually, this means the surface was not prepared properly back in the 90’s and dirt maybe finally starting to show through (see photos). There is also an original and complete extra steel hood included.

All the windows operate smoothly. The front windshield shows some bubbling on the edges. Taillights are LED. Exterior chrome looks excellent.

Interior:

The 2-tone cloth interior and trunk look good without any tears or rips. The bucket seats are 6-way power units and function normally. Custom dash uses Stewart Warner speedometer/odometer, fuel, oil pressure, water temperature, and volts for monitoring the engine. Aftermarket Optimos AM/FM/Cassette player was installed with a power antenna, which does work. Only the fuel gauge does not function. The wipers work by two electric switches in the glovebox. There is heat, but no A/C.

Chassis:

The stock frame has a Martz Mustang II rack & pinion front end (manual) with power brakes (discs front drums rear) and an 8” Ford rear differential with leaf springs (gears are unknown). Wheels are 15″ American Racing with 219/60R/15 front and 235/65R/15 rear radial tires.

Summary:

This is a great Street Rod with many upgrades and modifications, which although dated, still make it a fun and desirable Hot Rod. The steering and ride are great, and it starts easily. I did notice some ‘blue’ smoke from the exhaust when the car first starts up, but it does dissipate as it warms up. Could be valve seals from sitting.
