This Ford uses an original chassis with an “unchopped” ‘33 fiberglass Gibbon body and fenders along with a 1933 Ford steel hood and grill. What also helps give the coupe a very “original” look, are the correct horns, a cowl vent, taillights, and running boards. But there are subtle differences such as a 12-volt charging system, power windows, external oil filter, and a 4” dropped front axle.
The exterior has been treated to a traditional two-tone color theme using urethane paint in dark maroon with black fenders. Pinstriping was also applied around the beltline. The vinyl roof insert is real. The builder cut a hole in the body and used a real wood frame to recreate an accurate appearance. All the chrome and tinted glass are in excellent condition. The exterior headlights, turn signals, horns, and dual rear brake lights all function. The paint and finish are excellent and there appears to be no cracking or scratches except for where a prior outside driver’s mirror was mounted.
The “Flathead” engine has been treated to dual Stromberg 97 one-barrel carburetors, Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold, Eddie Myer air cleaner (repo), electric fuel pump, 16-gallon gas tank, modern distributor, Offenhauser cylinder heads, thermostatically controlled electric fan, headers, and dual exhaust with ‘Smitty’ style mufflers. A chrome alternator handles the charging system.
The transmission is a stock 1939 Ford item.
The interior is beautifully upholstered in a traditional mohair-type material including sun visors, door panels, and headliner. A wood grained style original steel 1933 Ford dashboard with a glove box was used, along with Stewart Warner, Speedometer/odometer, fuel, amps, oil pressure, and water temperature gauges. A traditional ’33 steering wheel and shifter add to the originality along with a ‘floor’ style starter button.
The windows are power and operate by moving the cranks up or down. The rear window is also power but does not work.
The 1933 stock suspension was upgraded to ‘juice’ brakes, a non-split wishbone front end with a 4” dropped axle. This gives the coupe a nice “raked” appearance. A stock rear differential and springs were also used along with the Mitchel overdrive. The original (5) powder coated Ford 17” wire wheels have new Excelsior tires (with tubes) measuring 4.75 x 5 front and 5.25 x 5.5 in the rear.
This coupe is a true ‘Hot Rod’ from a by gone era but was built to be reliable and a blast to drive.
